Colony is a bio structural installation created between the artist and 10,000 silk worms. The installation draws attention to the acts of migratory travel between two geogaphical locations, working with the silk worm and following its import from east to west through the silk industry.

Making connections between the Bojagi korean wrapping cloths, the practice of creating habitats (cocoons) by the silk worm and the culture of the artist’s own history of occupying 45 abodes across two countries, the work invites us to question our own physical home and how we would feel living in between two places.

The making of this work was carried out at The Comfrey Project, a community garden based in Gateshead which supports asylum seekers and refugees in the process of settling into a new place.
